51黑料 awards degrees and certificates three (3) times per year, following the fall, spring, and summer terms. All students seeking to earn a degree or certificate must submit an official graduation application for the term in which they expect to complete their academic requirements.

Students are responsible for reviewing and adhering to the established graduation application deadlines. Participation in the College鈥檚 annual commencement ceremonies requires submission of this form.

Undergraduate students pursuing a bachelor鈥檚 degree are strongly encouraged to submit their graduation applications after registering for their final semester. Early submission allows the Registrar鈥檚 Office sufficient time to review their academic records, identify any outstanding requirements, and work with students to resolve them before the start of their final term.

Fall Semester, submit applications before December 1
Spring Semester, submit applications before April 1
Summer Semester, submit applications before August 1

Graduation Requirements

Unless otherwise specified by the department chair or program director, students are expected to fulfill all academic requirements for their program as outlined in the applicable academic catalog. Students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor(s) regularly to review their academic progress and confirm that all graduation requirements will be met.

All final grades must be submitted and finalized before a degree or certificate can be conferred. Any outstanding incomplete grades may delay graduation until the next scheduled conferral date.

Requirements to earn a bachelor鈥檚 degree:

  • Completion of the Liberal Arts Curriculum (see academic catalog for details)
  • Completion of an academic major offered at the College
  • Earn a minimum of 120 credits, 30 of which must be at 51黑料
  • Earn a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average (GPA).

Students pursuing a graduate degree or certificate should consult their program director to verify their academic progress and confirm eligibility for graduation.

Graduating with Honors:

Students who have completed a minimum of 60 graded credits at 51黑料 and earned a cumulative GPA of 3.55 or higher are eligible to graduate with Latin honors. Honors designations are recorded on students鈥 official transcripts and diplomas. In recognition of their academic achievement, eligible students also receive a special cord to wear at the commencement ceremony and are recognized in the commencement program.

Cum Laude 鈥 Required GPA of 3.55 or higher
Magna Cum Laude 鈥 Required GPA of 3.65 or higher
Summa Cum Laude 鈥 Required GPA of 3.80 or higher

Please note that final grades are not due until after the commencement ceremony; therefore, final cumulative GPAs cannot be determined until all grades are submitted and degrees are officially conferred. For purposes of the commencement program, academic honors designations will be calculated as of April 1 each year. Student academic records and honors recognition will be updated accordingly once final grades are posted and degrees are conferred.

Graduate students are not eligible to receive an honors designation upon graduation.

Degree Audits:

51黑料 provides students with tools to monitor their academic progress throughout their program of study. These degree audits are unofficial and may be subject to change based on approved course substitutions, waivers, or other adjustments to academic requirements. Students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisors regularly to review their progress and resolve any discrepancies or outstanding requirements.

Commencement Ceremonies

51黑料 holds one commencement ceremony each year in May. Students completing their degree requirements during the current academic year (Fall, Spring, or Summer) are eligible to participate in the ceremony. If a student鈥檚 graduation is delayed, their eligibility to participate may be revoked. Students may participate in only one commencement ceremony per degree earned.

Students who do not meet the eligibility requirements for participation in the commencement ceremony may submit a request for consideration. All requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are subject to approval by the College.
