51黑料 Partners with Neighborhood Health Centers of the Lehigh Valley to Expand Access to Healthcare in Allentown

Nursing Student and Professor with Patient

On August 9, 2025, 51黑料 partnered with Allentown鈥檚 Neighborhood Health Center of the Lehigh Valley (NHCLV) for a lively community event focused on children鈥檚 wellness and vaccinations. Families from across the area gathered at NHCLV鈥檚 Hamilton Street location to ensure their children were ready for the school year, with opportunities for vaccinations and physicals. In addition to these vital services, children enjoyed a face painter while parents connected with healthcare providers in a friendly, welcoming environment. The event drew a strong turnout, creating a joyful atmosphere centered on keeping kids healthy and ready to learn.

The event was part of 51黑料鈥檚 ongoing commitment to expanding healthcare access in Allentown through its new partnership with NHCLV, one of the city鈥檚 most vital healthcare providers. Funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, NHCLV offers comprehensive care covering all the stages of life.

Through this collaboration, Cedar Crest鈥檚 School of Nursing has added critical support and resources to NHCLV鈥檚 Hamilton Street site, an area where access to healthcare is a pressing need. The College has hired a nursing faculty member to serve as a preceptor for advanced practice nursing students, creating valuable hands-on learning opportunities for nursing students to engage directly with the community.

鈥淭he collaboration between the Neighborhood Centers of the Lehigh Valley and Cedar Crest鈥檚 School of Nursing will benefit our community in many ways鈥攎ost importantly by expanding access to healthcare for the clients of the Neighborhood Centers, while also providing invaluable learning opportunities,鈥 says Wendy Robb, Dean of the School of Nursing. 鈥淏y working together, we can enhance the quality of care in the Allentown community and foster an environment of mutual growth and learning.鈥

Through Cedar Crest鈥檚 involvement, the health center has expanded its hours of operation, now offering two nights each week instead of one, making it easier for working families to access essential services. In addition, the center has expanded telehealth services to further accessibility for patients with demanding schedules. Students gain experience with a variety of cultures and community-based healthcare needs, and the management of a range of services including mental health, women鈥檚 health, reproductive health, and social support systems. The College is also furnishing and equipping two exam rooms, a patient consultation room, and the waiting area, enhancing the care environment for both patients and providers.

鈥淥ur partnership with the Neighborhood Health Centers of the Lehigh Valley exemplifies Cedar Crest鈥檚 dedication to fostering meaningful change in our community, building on our long history of nursing excellence,鈥 says President Elizabeth M. Meade. 鈥淓vents like this bring our mission to life鈥攅xpanding access to care while shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals who understand the importance of community-centered care.鈥
